Type 3c Diabetes can be confused with Type 2 Diabetes

A new type of diabetes, type 3c has been discovered, and the most alarming is that there are apparently many people suffering from this type in specific, diagnosed as having type 2 diabetes.

What happens to type 1 diabetes, is that basically the body’s immune system destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, and usually arises during childhood, or adolescence, and in most cases, requires insulin supplements.

Type 2 diabetes, when the pancreas shows an inability to keep up with the body’s need for insulin production, is often associated with being overweight or even obese, and it is quite common for people of middle age or older age, although in recent years, this age has come down alarmingly.

Finally, type 3c diabetes is caused by a damage resulting from an inflammation of the pancreas, tumors in it, or pancreatic surgery, and this type of damage affects not only the body’s ability to produce insulin but also destroys the ability of this produce the proteins necessary to digest food (known as digestive enzymes) and other hormones.

There are some studies that prove that most people who suffer from type 3c diabetes need insulin, but not only do they need digestive enzymes in conjunction with meals.

Researchers are now worried about the huge possibility that type 3c diabetes is much more common than previously believed, and will in most cases be misdiagnosed, leading the patient to not get the best treatment.

People who suffer from type 3c diabetes are twice as likely to have poor blood sugar control as those with type 2 diabetes, and also have about 5 times the need to take insulin as those of type 2.

As in any disease, it is crucial to identify the type of the disease in order to carry out the best treatment for it, and it is therefore extremely important to refine the methods for diagnosis and identification of this disease.
