China has the world’s biggest solar farm to date, and it covers 26 square kilometers, with a staggering 4 million solar panels! The Longyangxia Dam Solar Park in China, has the incredible capacity of generating 850 megawatts of electricity, which is just enough power for about 140 000 homes.
Here you can see photos from the NASA Observatory, the first one was taken when the complex has start being built, and you can see a few panels, through a vast extension of terrain, and the second one, which was taken in January 2017, you can see the region more composed.
China has made the commitment to invest more in green energies to help combat its pollution levels, and as a result has pledged to halt the growth of its annual greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Just last year, China invested around 103 billion dollars in renewable energy, and increased its total capacity to 77 gigawatts, which put China on top of other leaders in renewable energies like Germany, Japan and the US.
But Longyangxia may not be the world’s biggest solar power plant for long, since there is a project already planned for the Ningxia region of Northwest China that will reportedly have a capacity of around 2000 megawatts upon its completion.
One thing is for sure, any green energy advances and investments, are great news to the environment!
