Apple issued a brief statement announcing that it will close all of its physical stores, corporate offices and contact centers in mainland China by the end of next week (February 9). Motivated by “a lot of caution and based on the latest advice from leading health experts”, the measure aims to limit the exposure of company employees to the coronavirus outbreak that has increasingly disturbed China and the world in the past two months.

Apple’s online store in China, on the other hand, remains open.

As previously mentioned, the coronavirus situation could interrupt the production of the next iPhone 9, as well as the latest AirPods. A key Apple partner, Foxconn has already denied these rumors, ensuring that they ‘continue to fulfill all global manufacturing obligations’.

The iPhone 9, which went into experimental production, is scheduled to launch on the market in late March with a planned volume of 30 million units.
